TRANSITION TO PRACTICE
Course content tailored to the institution’s specifications and may include policies and procedures, specific skill sets, communications and patient safety standards. This course is designed as a three-credit course to extend over a fifteen week period and will result in forty-five hours of skills training for nursing graduates. The same process will be employed to design training modules for EMS and allied health personnel.

HEMODYNAMIC MONITORING: cardiac index, cardiac output, CVP monitoring, MAP, PCWP, PVR, radial arterial line, SVO2 and SVR
ECG MONITORING: 12 lead ECG interpretation and lead placement, rhythm strip Interpretation
RHYTHM INTERPRETATION: Simus rhythm, bradycardia, SVT, asystole, ventricular fibrillation and tachycardia, atrial flutter and fibrillation, first, second and third degree blocks, junctional rhythms
EMERGENCY CARDIAC MEDICATIONS: atropine, adenosine, amiodarone, bretyllium, digoxin, dilitiazem, dobutamine, esmolol, lasix, epinephrine, lasix, lidocaine, NTG, nipride, procainamide, sodium bicarbonate, thrombolytic therapy
PATIENT CARE Abdominal aortic aneurysm, acute MI, cardiac arrest, cardiactamponade, CHF, infective carditis, post AICD insertion, post arthrectomy, pre/post angioplasty, pre/post cardiac cath.
VENTILATOR MANAGEMENT: CPAP, IMV, PEEP, weaning modes, high frequency jet ventilation, T-piece
PATIENT CARE: Acute pneumonia, ARDS, chest trauma, COPD, cor pulmonale, tracheostomy, lobectomy, pneumonectomy, pulmonary edema, pulmonary embolus, tuberculosis, laryngospasm, hemopneumothorax, tension pneumothorax
PULMONARY MEDICATIONS: Bronkosol, aminophylline, epinephrine, Isuprel, steroids, terbutaline
PATIENT CARE: CVA, aneurysm, basilar skull fracture, closed head injury, Coma, encephalitis, increased ICP, meningitis, laminectomy, metastatic tumor, multiple sclerosis, spinal cord injury
NEURO MEDICATIONS: Decadron and other steroids, dilantin and other seizure meds, mannitol, phenobarbitol
