Southwest Virginia Community College, in partnership with the Virginia Appalachian TriCollege Nursing Program, is pleased to off a comprehensive assisted learning and mentoring program for nursing under the Nursing Workforce Diversity Program. The program is designed to promote nurse education and to offer support mechanisms to assist current nursing students to be successful in their educational programs.
This program provides preferential admission to populations traditionally under-represented in the nursing profession, particularly males, minorities and veterans, although all population groups are served. The program provides
- Supplemental Instruction
- Training in geriatrics and cultural diversity
- Kids into Health Careers outreach
The program will administer scholarships annually. All scholarships are need-based and cannot exceed the cost of attendance. All eligible participants will be considered for scholarship awards upon application completion and acceptance to the Nursing Workforce Diversity program. Males and minorities will receive preferential consideration.
In order to be eligible for services, participants must meet HRSA eligibility guidelines. In order to participate in this federally-funded program, an application must be on file for all participants. The application has been designed to capture all information required for eligibility verification and for mandatory tracking of demographic information required by the funding agency. Eligibility determinations based on income must be verified with a copy of your most recent federal income tax returns or FAFSA. All information provided in the application is confidential and will be stored on a password-protected computer and in a locked filing cabinet.
