The Appalachian Arts Center offers:

  • acting classes for children and youth.
  • a play writing class for teens and adults in the Spring Semester, in partnership with the Barter Theater, in Abingdon, Virginia.
  • painting classes are also offered for elementary students in April or May, taught by master watercolor painter and muralist, Ellen Elmes, (pictured with a few of her young students).

This year’s speaker is George Owens, a retired Human Resources manager from Alpha Natural Resources. Enjoy a fun filled-day that will include dining, entertainment, and games. DJ and MC for the event is John Carper, president of SWCC’s Student Government Association. Wear your favorite 70s costume to be eligible for a prize.
