FAQ

Are you an employee or student publisher of data of interest to the entire SWCC community? There are several ways to become a part of the SWCC Mobile suite.

Populate Existing Apps

We welcome your contributions to SWCCMobile’s existing applications. Below is a description of the existing services and how their content is generated.

Directory

Information appearing in the SWCC Mobile directory is maintained and managed by SWCC’s IT Office, using the submissions by faculty and staff through the online update form at http://www.sw.edu/phonelist . Only already public information is visible to users of the SWCC Mobile application. For assistance with this service or to correct or add information to these listings, please use the update form.

Events

Information featured in Events is powered by the college’s Events Calendar.  Events held at the Community Center and the academic calendar are routinely included.

If you would like to have your department calendar or special events included in the Main Events list on SWCC Mobile, you may contact the calendar admin at 276.964.7365 to obtain an account to add your information.

News

SWCC Mobile draws on a feed from the college’s main Facebook page to populate the News section. Include your single news item into the existing campus news outlet by contacting Public Relations.

Places

Within the Maps application, these themed lists help people on campus find related areas of interest.

To be considered, a list of places must have broad, community-wide appeal. Email mobile@sw.edu to submit your listing request.

Developing New Mobile Apps

SWCC Mobile was created by Blackboard Inc. for the VCCS. New apps developed by Blackboard or other schools using the technology will periodically become available, continually enhancing the capabilities of SWCC Mobile.

As discussed above, there are many opportunities to plug into SWCC Mobile. If you are still in need of different functionality and have the resources for custom app development, you may propose to enrich SWCC Mobile with a new app. Additional apps must be approved by the Administrative Cabinet prior to their creation. This is to ensure compatibility with the existing Blackboard Mobile standards and campus-wide appeal.

To begin the discussion, email mobile@sw.edu  with an abstract of your idea. After review, you may be contacted by someone in the Office of Information Technology to begin developing the business case. Please note that no resources are available from the SWCC Mobile initiative, and all proposals must include secured sources of funding.
