A three-day summer camp for youth (Age 11 to 13), focusing on Geographic Information Systems and GPS technology. The participant will receive instruction inAdventure Tourism & Outdoor Recreation Logo the use of map and compass, GPS units, career opportunities and educational requirements. Guest speakers will be brought in from state parks, county governments, and private industries to describe the use of GIS/GPS technologies. Field trip to locations to use GPS/GIS. Participants will practice the principles and learn the value of Leave No Trace.

Students will:

  • Learn how to use Geographic Information Systems (GIS).
  • Demonstrate use of a GPS in hands-on interactive activities to mark and find waypoints and to record a track.
  • Demonstrate ability to transfer GPS data into a GIS.
  • Explore career opportunities related to GIS/GPS technology.
  • Participate in field trips to locations to see GIS/GPS technology in action.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of using Geocaching.com and locating geocaches.
  • Discuss the principle and application of Leave No Trace.

Location: Davis Hall Room 204

Date/Time: June 20 – June 22, 2017 9:00am to 4:00pm

Cost: $20.00 for first kid, discount for multiple kids. Scholarships may be available (Includes Camp T-shirt and Medallion)(Submit shirt size with registration form)
