Southwest Adventure Team

Southwest Adventure Team Banner

The Southwest Adventure Team is a school-sponsored, student-led group dedicated to exploring and creating adventures in the great outdoors. The primary purpose of the Southwest Adventure Team is to provide regular outdoor activities, promote interest in outdoor activities, and encourage the practice of limited-impact outdoor ethics for Southwest Virginia Community College students, faculty, and staff. We practice “safety first” and “Leave No Trace” values, and we also include a few tips on outdoor survival skills, map reading/GPS, and first aid.

Events and Activities:

  • Hiking to local and regional locations
  • Multiple-day adventure trips
  • Single and multiple-night camping
  • River-involved trips with kayaking
  • Kayaking adventures, like full moon rides
  • Mountain bike trips
  • Skiing or sledding trips
  • Fishing trips
  • Explore and learn different skills and ideas to have a minimal impact on the environment
  • Trail service projects
  • Help promote summer camps for youth and other programs
  • Help promote Adventure Tourism and Outdoor Recreation programs
  • Help promote Wilderness First Aid
  • If it is outdoors, we want to do it
