The\n Southwest Virginia Community College Annual Scholarship Golf Classic \nwill be held on Thursday, September 26th at 1:00 P.M. at Tazewell County\n Country Club.  This year\u2019s tournament is the 28th Anniversary of this \npopular event that began as a celebration of Southwest\u2019s 25th<\/sup>\n anniversary in 1992. Over the years, thousands of dollars of \nscholarships have been awarded from the proceeds of the tournament.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This\n year\u2019s tournament is being played in celebration of the life of David \nPeters. David was an avid golfer and played in many Southwest \nScholarship Golf Classic Tournaments over the years. Proceeds from this \nyear\u2019s tournament will benefit the David Peters Golf Scholarship.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Southwest\u2019s tournament provides the opportunity for participants to win excellent prizes. Prizes are donated by area businesses and include a 2019 Jeep Renegade Sport 4×4 automobile for a hole-in-one on hole # 3, provided by Ramey Auto Group<\/em>.\u00a0 Other prizes are available for winners of a hole-in-one on other par three\u2019s. Cash prizes are awarded for closest to the pin on par three\u2019s and hole # 9 and for longest drive on # 18 for men, # 2 for women and most accurate drive on # 4. \u00a0Numerous door prizes will be given to tournament players through a drawing. The Grand Prize is a handcrafted brass desk-top clock made by Steven Olinger, Instructor in Southwest\u2019s Machining and CNC Technology program. \u00a0Participants will also receive a tournament golf ball, a hat, and a towel. Snacks and drinks are provided during play and a reception and dinner, provided by Food City,<\/em> conclude the day\u2019s events.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The tournament is a two-person team, Captain\u2019s Choice format with men\u2019s, women\u2019s or mixed teams. Participation fee is $150 per person which includes \u201ctrash\u201d of one red tee, one druther, a chance on the grand prize and two $100 cash prizes. The fee for Tournament Sponsors is $1000 for two players and Hole Sponsors, $500 for one player.\u00a0 Sponsors will be recognized throughout the tournament and at the reception and dinner following the tournament.
