Hayes to become the fourth permanent president of Southwest Virginia Community College (SWCC). Dr. Hayes\u2019 selection concludes a search that attracted 63 candidates nationwide. His service as president at Southwest Virginia will begin July 1.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"alignleft size-large is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"731\" height=\"1024\" src=\"https:\/\/sw.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2025\/05\/SWCC_PREZ_SEARCH_HAYES-Spring2025-731x1024.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2387\" style=\"width:263px;height:auto\" title=\"SWCC PREZ SEARCH HAYES Spring2025\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sw.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2025\/05\/SWCC_PREZ_SEARCH_HAYES-Spring2025-731x1024.png 731w, https:\/\/sw.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2025\/05\/SWCC_PREZ_SEARCH_HAYES-Spring2025-214x300.png 214w, https:\/\/sw.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2025\/05\/SWCC_PREZ_SEARCH_HAYES-Spring2025.png 750w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 731px) 100vw, 731px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Hayes<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re excited to welcome Dr. Hayes to lead Southwest Virginia Community College, and we know he will continue to provide the kind of dynamic leadership that has made SWCC such a cultural center and economic driver in its region,\u201d said Chancellor Dor\u00e9. \u201cWe also want to express our deepest thanks to Dr. Victoria Sue Ratliff, who has provided leadership at Southwest Virginia as Interim President since last January.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cOur months-long search attracted exceptional candidates and we are grateful to all of the talented educators who expressed interest in the Southwest Virginia presidency,\u201d Dor\u00e9 added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dr. Hayes currently serves as Provost\/Senior Vice President of Academic Affairs at Somerset Community College in Somerset, Kentucky, a post he has held since February 2019.\u00a0 Dr. Hayes has been affiliated with Somerset Community College since 2007 and has served as Interim Provost\/Chief Academic Officer, Associate Provost\/Chief Learning Officer, Associate Dean of Academic Affairs\/Division of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, and Director of Institutional Effectiveness &amp; Research (Concurrent with Associate Dean of Academic Affairs). Dr. Hayes\u2019 teaching experience includes Instructor, Biological Sciences and Instructional Specialist, Biological Sciences, both at Somerset. In addition, he was Adjunct Instructor and Graduate Assistant at Eastern Kentucky University in Richmond, Kentucky.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dr. Hayes earned an Electronic Technician Diploma at Tennessee Technology Center, an associate degree in Science at Somerset Community College, bachelor\u2019s and master\u2019s Degrees at Eastern Kentucky University, and a Doctorate in Education at University of the Cumberlands.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m so impressed with Dr. Hayes\u2019 dedication and long experience in serving the educational needs of people in a part of eastern Kentucky that\u2019s similar to Southwest Virginia,\u201d said SWCC local advisory board Chair Randall Hillman. \u201cHe really knows what our people need in terms of academic and workforce training, and we\u2019re thrilled that he\u2019ll be joining our community.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI am deeply honored to be named the next president of Southwest Virginia Community College,\u201d said Dr. Hayes. \u201cAs a first-generation college student from a rural community whose life was shaped by the education and support I received at a community college, I understand firsthand the transformative power of institutions like Southwest Virginia.
