Cedar Bluff, VA<\/strong> \u2014 Southwest Virginia Community College proudly announces that Chief Millard McGhee, head of the Campus Police Department has been selected to attend the prestigious\u00a0Professional Executive Leadership School (PELS)<\/strong>, offered by the Virginia Association of Chiefs of Police (VACP).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

PELS is recognized statewide as one of the premier leadership development programs for law\u2011enforcement executives through the University of Richmond’s School of Professional and Continuing Studies. The intensive curriculum focuses on strategic management, leadership, organizational development, and modern policing challenges. Participation is limited to leaders who demonstrate exceptional professional standards, a commitment to public service, and the capacity to guide their agencies through evolving safety and security demands.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Chief McGhee\u2019s selection reflects his ongoing dedication to strengthening campus safety, enhancing emergency preparedness, and advancing the professional development of the Southwest Virginia Community College Campus Police Department. As a U.S. Navy veteran and experienced law\u2011enforcement officer, Chief McGhee brings a strong foundation of service, discipline, and community engagement to the program.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIt is an honor to represent Southwest Virginia Community College in the PELS program,\u201d<\/em> Chief McGhee said. \u201cThis opportunity will allow me to further enhance our department\u2019s leadership capacity, strengthen our operational readiness, and continue building a culture of professionalism and trust across our campus community.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

Chief McGhee completed the program April 16th , 2026, applying its principles to ongoing initiatives including emergency operations planning, threat assessment coordination, officer development, and campus\u2011wide safety communications.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
