Precious Metal Clay Jewelry Workshop
Have you ever wanted to learn how to design and create your own jewelry using precious metal clay? Now is your chance! Precious metal clay (PMC) consists of tiny particles of pure metal (such as silver, gold, copper and bronze) mixed with an organic binder and water.
Similar in consistency to silly putty or soft clay, the medium takes impressions from whatever texture pressed upon it, such as seashells, leaves, buttons, feathers, etc. Once fired, the binder burns off, leaving only the precious metal behind.
In this class, local artist Allison Street will show participants how to work with Fast Fire BronzeClay to make a pendant and a pair of earrings.
The cost of the class is $95. All materials will be provided, including BronzeClay molding material, tools, and texture stamps.
Students may also bring objects from home with an intriguing texture to use if they wish. (Earring hooks and jump rings will be provided but chains/ leather cords for pendants will not.) The pieces will be fired and tumbled the next day.
Students will come back on December 5th to assemble their fired earrings and pendants.
There is space in the class for 18 participants, and those interested should call the Arts Center at 276-596-9188 to reserve their place with a credit card, or stop by to pay during normal business hours: Tuesday- Friday: 12-6pm; and Saturday: 10am-6pm.
