Students attending SWCC who elect to pursue the Pharm.D. degree program at the Appalachian College of Pharmacy<\/a> may take all courses required through Southwest’s Science Pre-Medical degree. All applicants to ACP are subject to review and acceptance by ACP. No guarantee of admission or financial aid is expressed or implied. SWCC students completing the pre-pharmacy program are provided preferential admission to ACP when compared to similar applicants from non-partner institutions<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Checklist for Collaboration with the Appalachian College of Pharmacy (ACP)<\/a><\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n
    \n
  1. Complete online Southwest Admission Application<\/a> and make sure all required information, including transcripts from other institutions are provided to SWCC.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  2. Declare a major in Science: Specialization Pre-Medical.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  3. Meet with Bill Taylor to find out course substitutions that will allow students to obtain an Associate of Arts and Sciences Degree. Email: bill.taylor@sw.edu<\/a>,  Telephone: 276-964-7309<\/em><\/li>\n\n\n\n
  4. Receiving this degree and maintaining a high overall GPA and science GPA will enhance chance for admission to a four-year college or university or professional school.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  5. Application to ACP is through the online Pharmacy College Application Service (PharmCAS, at http:\/\/www.pharmcas.org<\/a>).<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  6. Submission of supplemental application through PharmCAS<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  7. Obtain two strong letters of recommendation.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  8. Successful completion of an on-campus admissions interview.<\/li>\n\n\n\n

    *These four hour science credit classes consist of three lecture hours and three laboratory hours.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    ** CHM 260 and CHM 261 Biochemistry lecture and lab may be substituted for PHY 202.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    To receive the Associate of Arts and Science Degree Major Science: Specialization in Pre-Medical requirements: <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Math; the student who needs MTH 161 will need 9 hours math, which includes one semester of calculus.
    Social Science electives: ECO, PSY, SOC. Humanities electives: ENG, Art Appreciation, Music Appreciation, Foreign Language, REL, PHI.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Substitutions: HLT 143 is approved for HLT\/PED credits. ACP requires 19 hours of electives<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    In order to fulfill the Electives requirement, <\/em>the successful applicant must complete at least:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      \n
    • one course in social\/behavioral sciences (3 semester credits) such as psychology or sociology<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • one course in the humanities\/fine arts (3 semester credits) such as literature, art, or music<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • one course in ITE, ECO, or MTH (3 semester credits).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

      Humanities courses are content based courses rather than skilled-based courses, such as English Composition, or a foreign language course. Skill-based courses will not fulfill the Humanities requirements.<\/em> The remaining four (4) semester credits can be fulfilled by the successful completion of any of the three categories described above.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
