{"id":52,"date":"2013-08-02T09:20:00","date_gmt":"2013-08-02T13:20:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www6.sw.edu\/sga\/?page_id=52"},"modified":"2025-03-07T15:00:26","modified_gmt":"2025-03-07T20:00:26","slug":"about","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/sw.edu\/sga\/about\/","title":{"rendered":"About SGA"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-center\">About Your Student Government Association<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center wp-block-heading\"><strong>The Student Government Association serves as the student body\u2019s voice at SWCC.&nbsp; The SGA Senate is comprised of fifteen senators.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\"><strong>Student Experiences:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Leadership Training and Opportunities<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Community Service<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Consultation with Student Peers, Faculty, Staff, and Administration<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Support of Student Engagement (Clubs, Sports, and other Campus Organizations)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Cultural Enrichment Opportunities<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\"><strong>How Do I Know If I Qualify?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>To qualify as a senator, you must have a 2.0 GPA (from your most recent institution, such as high school, Southwest Virginia Community College, or transfer institution).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>You must be able to meet on Thursdays from 12:15 PM to 1:05 PM in the Fall and Spring semesters. SGA does not meet in the Summer term.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If elected, you must be able to continue to participate and engage in the meetings for the duration of the term of office. Failure to attend three consecutive meetings can result in a review of your ongoing participation in the Student Government Association, as it is a graded course.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>You must also maintain a 2.0 average while in office.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-center\">Benefits of SGA<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\">It has been proven that involved students have a more successful college experience.
