SWCC in Top 10 Community Colleges in the Nation

Southwest Virginia Community College Cited in Study as One of the Top 10 Community Colleges in the Nation

Southwest Virginia Community College was ranked number 10 in a comparison of 670 community colleges in the nation by a study completed by the online personal financial resource company, Wallet Hub. Only two colleges from Virginia were listed as a top 10 college in the survey.

Wallet Hub provides tools and information to consumers and small business owners in order for them to make better financial decisions and save money. The article announcing the college’s inclusion at the top of the survey can be found online at http://wallethub.com/edu/best-worst-community-colleges/15076/. The site provides additional information about why Southwest and other community colleges were given their individual rankings.

We are very pleased to be selected as one of the top ten community colleges in the nation by Wallet Hub,” said Dr. Mark Estepp, president of SWCC. “Based on the criteria put forth by the study, we ranked extremely high in their analysis.”

The study looked at several important criteria: cost and financing, classroom experience, education outcomes, and career outcomes. Under each of these general headings was a list of specific issues, about which data was collected and then analyzed.

The information used to create these rankings was obtained from the National Center for Education Statistics, the Center for Community College Student Engagement, the Council for Community and Economic Research, and the American Institutes for Research and Optimity Advisors.

SWCC’s inclusion on this list, and at number 10 no less, illustrates the quality and value of education that they receive while at SWCC,” said Dr. Barbara Fuller, vice president of Academic and Student Services.
