Jobs in High Demand Fields

Southwest Virginia Community College is offering programs in fields which are in high demand in the Southwest Virginia region. These programs of study are developed to provide stackable credentials so that graduates may gain entry-level jobs and quickly move up in their chosen career.

"Stackable credentials" means that when you start out with an entry level degree in a high demand field of study, you can build on that earned degree as part of a pathway to a better job.

Pathway programs and courses are designed to provide an entry into high demand jobs such as:

law enforcement, corrections, security (Administration of Justice)

precision machining, mechatronics and electrical, mechanical, and industrial maintenance (Advanced Manufacturing)

paraprofessional in child care or day care, or head start programs   (Early Childhood Development)

emergency medical technician or paramedic (Emergency Medical Technician)

IT specialist, entry level programmer, systems technician (Information Technology)

entry level trade electrician, air conditioning repair, heat pump installer,  welder (Trades)
