Certified Fiber Optic Technician
We have partnered with Taylor’s Construction, a Quanta Services company, to provide our comprehensive CFOT® certification program. You will be trained by leaders in the field of fiber optics, from fiber optic applications and installations to cable testing. You will gain practical experience in splicing, termination, and testing through hands-on lab exercises.
Learn Essential Skills
Our on-campus pole yard allows you to learn essential skills in pole climbing and working with various utility lines, preparing you for real-world scenarios.
This program offers:
- Certified Fiber Optic Technician (CFOT®)
- OSHA 10
- First Aid/CPRE/AED
- Intermediate Work Zone Flagger
- Hands-on training from professional fiber optic technicians with Taylor’s Construction, a Quanta Services company
From the ground up
Fiber optic installation includes digging trenches and using horizontal underground drilling machines in addition to running cables on poles and setting guy-wires. You will learn how to operate the necessary equipment from professional operators.

Southwest Virginia Community College meets the Fiber Optic Association‘s curriculum guidelines for training and is authorized to offer FOA certifications.
This program is in partnership with Taylor’s Construction, a Quanta Services company and industry leader in broadband communication services, and our instructors are active fiber optic technicians providing world-class training in Southwest Virginia.
