As you stroll around the sprawling campus of Southwest Virginia Community College, one unique feature may capture your attention – the intriguing brick sculptures embellishing several of the buildings.
A captivating form of artistry that leaves a distinct signature on the campus, these sculptures are the creations of Johnny Hagerman, a local artist whose talent for brick sculpting is a source of fascination and admiration.
Hagerman’s art is woven into the fabric of campus life, spanning across multiple spaces including Dellinger Hall, where his brickwork adorns the fireplace, walls, and fountain. Moreover, the King Community Center houses the popular Jack Tales carving, another testament to Johnny’s unparalleled craftsmanship.
