Breaks Interstate Park

Update (June 10, 2020):

The Buchanan County Board of Supervisors has decided to continue covering the tuition for non-traditional students for Summer 2020 semester only. The students must have already enrolled in classes and have a processed funding application prior to the first day of summer classes on June 8, 2020. These students will not be covered for Fall 2020.

If you have questions about the status of your tuition funding, please contact our Financial Aid office at 276-964-7724 or financialaid@sw.edu.

Original Post:

Buchanan County Administration has alerted Southwest that they will be changing the parameters of their free tuition program, effective for the Summer 2020 term, which begins Monday, June 8.

They will be funding 2 years of tuition for recent high school graduates only. Funding will not be available for students who graduated earlier than 2019.

Funding will also cease that covers the students’ portion of dual-enrollment tuition, along with any non-dual enrollment college classes for those students who are still in high school.

The Buchanan County Board of Supervisors votes on their final budget on June 15.

At this point, it affects 48 students distributed among summer and fall who had completed all of the documentation. Those students have been contacted by email and personal phone calls to explore other funding that may be available to them in addition to electronic payment plans and 60-Day loans.

We will update this page as more details become available.
