CEDAR BLUFF, VA — The Credit Bureau of the Virginias Foundation, Inc. has been donating scholarship funds to Southwest Virginia Community College since 2003. Today, Jimmy W. Welch, Executive Director of the foundation, presented a scholarship check to Susan Lowe, Vice President of Institutional Advancement at Southwest Virginia Community College, and Stacey McGhee, Alumni & Prospect Research Coordinator.
To date, more than 75 Southwest Virginia Community College students have benefitted from the Credit Bureau of the Virginias Foundation Scholarship program, which grants six $1000 scholarships annually to students from the southwest Virginia/southern West Virginia counties bordering the Bluefield area. Students may receive the scholarship as long as they are successfully enrolled in a program at Southwest pursuing a diploma, usually for two years. Students targeted to receive these scholarships should have a grade point average of 2.0 to 3.0 and maintain that average to continue receiving the scholarship.
