Drill: Shelter-in-Place

Hello Southwest,

A Shelter-in-Place drill is scheduled for Wednesday, October 9, 2024, at 10:00 AM. The safety and well-being of our community is a top priority, and we want to ensure that everyone is fully aware of the procedure to follow during this drill.

What to Expect:

Start Time: 10am

Duration: The drill will last approximately 45 minutes

Notification: Will be sent out via Southwest Alerts (https://www.sw.edu/alert

What to do During the Drill:

  1. Stay Indoors: When the shelter in place alert is issued, all student, faculty, and staff should immediately seek shelter inside the nearest building.
  2. Move To Interior Spaces: Choose a room or areas away from windows and doors. Ideal locations include emergency shelters, interior hallways, or rooms with no windows.
  3. Secure the Space: Once inside, lock or barricade doors, if possible, close any windows.
  4. Remain Calm and Await Instructions: Please remain in your shelter-in-place location until and official all clear message is given thought text alerts.
  5. After the Drill: Once the “all clear” is announced you may resume regular activities. If you have any feedback or question after the drill, please feel free to share them so we can continue to improve.

Thank you for your continued support during this important time and helping to keep our college community safe.
