Winter Weather Preparedness

Southwest Virginia Community College Community,

As we approach the weekend, forecasts indicate the potential for severe winter weather in our region. In the interest of safety and preparedness, I encourage everyone to take a few proactive steps to ensure you and your families remain safe and comfortable should conditions worsen.

As part of your personal emergency planning, take a moment to review your household’s readiness. Identify a safe, warm location in your home where you can stay if temperatures drop, ensure all mobile devices are fully charged, and gather important documents in a secure, easily accessible place. It is also helpful to discuss a simple communication plan with family members so everyone knows how to check in if conditions deteriorate or if power or cell service becomes limited.

Please consider stocking up on essentials, including food, drinking water, necessary medications, and emergency heating supplies. It is also wise to keep flashlights, batteries, and other basic emergency equipment readily available in case of a power outage. Taking time now to prepare can make a meaningful difference if conditions become challenging.

Campus Safety will continue to closely monitor weather updates and share additional information as needed. Your well-being remains our top priority, and we appreciate your cooperation in staying alert and prepared.

Thank you for your attention and commitment to safety.
