The purpose of the Virginia Commonwealth Emergency Assistance Fund is to provide short-term financial assistance to enrolled undergraduate students with demonstrated financial need who experience unforeseen emergencies that would disrupt progress to term completion or degree attainment at Southwest Virginia Community College.
Examples of eligible emergency expenses include, but are not limited to: Food, Natural Disaster (Fire, Tornado, etc.), Vehicle Breakdown/Accident, Temporary Housing, Technology Replacement, Transportation (Repairs or Service), Emergency Child-care.

The Southwest student emergency funding is dedicated to helping students with temporary, short-term financial assistance. Emergency funding is not intended to provide ongoing relief of recurring/routine expenses or as a consistent supplement for educational expenses.

All Locations: 2-Hour Delay on Tuesday, December 16, 2025
Monday, December 15: Campus closed until 5:00 PM. All daytime classes canceled. Campus will reopen at 5:00 PM for evening classes.
All Southwest locations are CLOSED on Friday, December 12, due to inclement weather.
All locations closing at 10:30 AM on Sun, Dec 14, due to inclement weather. Night classes are canceled.
