From Big Stone Gap in the mountains of Southwest Virginia, Tyler has traveled close to home and internationally playing banjo tunes and singing songs from the Virginia coalfields. He has appeared on NPR, PBS, and WSM’s Grand Ole Opry. An advocate for passing on the region’s music to the next generation, he can often be found teaching banjo and square dancing at Mountain Empire Community College or at one of the many junior Appalachian musicians programs across the mountains.
