Southwest Virginia Community College (SWCC) will host it’s Governor’s School program this summer (2023). The three-week program is specifically designed for high school students in the Virginia counties of Buchanan, Dickenson (partial), Russell, and Tazewell, who have demonstrated exceptional academic performance in science and technology.
SWCC Governor’s Summer School for Science & Technology will take place July 10th through July 28th, 2023, and is an opportunity for students to receive a comprehensive and immersive summer learning experience, free of charge.
Thanks to a grant from the Department of Education for Virginia, students accepted into the program will receive free tuition, materials, lunches, and snacks. The program offers a range of activities, including capstone projects, field activities, counseling, and career mentoring experiences.
Enrollment is limited, and students will be divided into two tracks, healthcare and engineering technology. While every effort will be made to place students in their desired track, SWCC cannot guarantee specific placements due to limited space. Students will be notified of their track placement upon acceptance into the Governor’s School program.
One of the most significant benefits of the SWCC Governor’s School is the opportunity for students to earn six college credits and various credentials, which can be applied to their program of study at SWCC or transferred to other colleges and universities.
The Governor’s School program is an excellent way for students to explore their passions and interests, gain hands-on experience, and get a head start on their college education.
Southwest Virginia Community College will be closing all locations at 2:30 PM, on Tue, Nov 19. Remaining day & night classes are cancelled.
