The popular MAD Camp (Music, Art, and Drama), sponsored by Southwest Virginia Community College, will present a performance of ANNIE, Jr. on Friday, July 19, at 6:30 p.m. in the Charles R. King Community Center. After working all week learning parts and music and making sets and costumes, campers are ready to show family and friends the results of their work at MAD Camp. They will be joined by Annie’s special dog, Sandy.
The staff for the camp is made up of well-qualified and well-known area artists and teachers. Morgan Wallace Gilbert will direct the art program guiding the campers as they design the sets, props and costumes for the play. Gilbert is the art teacher at Lebanon High School and an adjunct Art History Instructor at Virginia Highlands Community College. Gilbert is the newly-appointed Instructor of Art at SWCC.
Music will be directed by Nancy Henderson, a graduate of SWCC with a B.S. in Music Education from Radford College. Henderson has been a music teacher in Tazewell County for 12 years, and earned the 2018-19 Teacher of the Year in Tazewell County for Elementary grades.
Danielle Muawad will direct the drama instruction and direction for the play. Muawad is a graduate of SWCC and earned her BFA in Musical Theatre from Emory and Henry College. She is currently pursuing her MFA in Acting at Regent University in Norfolk. She has acted in and directed numerous musicals.
There is no admission charge for the performance although voluntary donations may be made at the door. Call 276-964-7347/276-964-7348 for information.
