Results of the 37th Annual Richlands Open Tennis Tournament

The 37th Annual Richlands Open Tennis Tournament was held beginning June 16 at the Bob and Nona Nassif Tennis Courts at Southwest Virginia Community College. The results were as follows

  • Women’s Singles- Hannah Daniels, champion; Jasmine Hampton, runner-up
  • Men’s Singles-Troy Moore, champion; Jeff Hurst, runner-up
  • Men’s 50+ singles- Lynn Leaseburge, champion; Bill Dye, runner-up
  • Men’s Doubles- Bob Staton/Joseph Trivette, champions; Paul Min/Jeff Hurst, runners-up
  • Novice-Tyler Stilwell, champion; Jasmine Hampton, runner-up

Proceeds from the tournament benefit the Music Program at Southwest, providing scholarships/honoraria for music majors. Sponsors for the tournament made it possible for the tournament to net approximately $6000. The tournament is a tribute to Bob Nassif and Mary Ann Strong, who originated the tournament many years ago. Even though the Nassif’s have moved from the area, they continue to be involved in interest and support for the tennis tournament.

Tournament organizers were: Tournament Chair: Mary Ann Strong; Tournament Directors: Joseph Trivette and Jason Vencill; Committee Members: David Ascue, Rod Moore, Ann Marie Trivette, Annette McClanahan, Susan Lowe, Stacey McGhee and Mary W. Lawson.
