The 44th Annual SWCC Math Contest was held on April 26 at Southwest Virginia Community College. 160 high school students from the following schools participated: Graham, Richlands, Ridgeview, Castlewood, Grundy, Honaker, Tazewell, Council, Hurley, Mountain Mission, and Twin Valley.
Students competed in subjects including Algebra 1, Geometry, Algebra 2, Algebra 3 and Trigonometry, and Calculus. The Math Contest provides a platform for high school students to demonstrate their mathematical skills. The longevity and success of this annual contest are due to the efforts and support of retired math instructor Bill Fiess and the dedication of numerous SWCC faculty and staff over the last four decades.
Each winning school received $500 from the Southwest Virginia Community College Educational Foundation.
The division winners by division are as follows:
Division I (high enrollment): Richlands High School
Division II (mid-enrollment): Castlewood High School
Division III (small-enrollment): Council High School
