Partnership increases access to nutritious food

Cedar Bluff, Virginia – Southwest Virginia Community College (SWCC) has received a $3,500 grant from the Food Lion Feeds Charitable Foundation to help nourish students experiencing hunger. The “Nourishing Our Neighbors” grant supports community feeding partners as they tackle food insecurity.

“Low and moderate income households are disproportionately impacted by rising consumer costs for expenses such as rent, utilities, and fuel, which ultimately leads to higher levels of food insecurity. SWCC’s Food for Thought student food pantry was created to help students experiencing food insecurity. The College and the SWCC Educational Foundation deeply appreciate this grant which will help support the Food for Thought pantry,” said Susan Lowe, SWCC Vice President of Institutional Advancement.

The Food Lion Feeds Charitable Foundation is committed to supporting families facing food insecurity across its 10-state footprint. Established in 2001, the foundation provides financial support for programs and organizations dedicated to feeding local neighbors in the communities it serves. Since its inception, the foundation has awarded nearly $23 million in grants.
