CEDAR BLUFF, VA — Southwest Virginia Community College will discontinue its Athletics program at the conclusion of the 2025-2026 academic year. This decision follows a comprehensive review of resources, student participation, and the long-term feasibility of maintaining collegiate athletics at the College.
Athletics has long been a source of pride for our community, bringing together students, alumni, and supporters. Our student-athletes and coaches have demonstrated exceptional talent, dedication, and sportsmanship, and their contributions will always be valued as part of our College’s history.
The College will continue to support student-athletes as they explore new opportunities, whether transferring to institutions with athletic programs or focusing on academic success here at Southwest. We remain committed to providing high-quality, affordable education to the region and will continue to enhance campus life through a variety of student engagement activities.
We sincerely thank our students, coaches, staff, families, and the Southwest Virginia community for their unwavering support of Athletics over the years. While this chapter is closing, the spirit and traditions built through these programs will remain an important part of our College’s legacy.
