A group of distinguished Southwest Virginica Community College honors students recently traveled to the nation’s capital for an unforgettable experience: participating in the solemn wreath-laying ceremony at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Arlington National Cemetery. This honor was made possible through the generosity of the Anne and Gene Worrell Foundation.

The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier stands as a powerful symbol of sacrifice, honoring service members who gave their lives without recognition. The wreath-laying ceremony is one of the most revered traditions in the United States, and for these students, it was an opportunity to pay tribute to those who fought for freedom.

During their visit, the students not only took part in the ceremony but also explored historic landmarks throughout Washington, D.C., gaining a deeper understanding of the nation’s history and the values of service and patriotism.

Honors is an avenue where SWCC supports its commitment to enriching educational opportunities and fostering civic responsibility among young leaders. For the students, the trip was more than a journey—it was a moment to honor the past while inspiring their future.
