Southwest Virginia Community College is pleased to announce that, through the generosity of Dr. Alexander and the Virginia Foundation for Community College Education (VFCCE), we have been awarded $5,000 for FY26 Student Success and Emergency Funds.

These flexible funds are designed to assist Southwest students facing financial challenges and unforeseen barriers to college completion. Allowable uses include cost-of-attendance expenses not typically covered by traditional financial aid, such as:

  • Transportation
  • Childcare
  • Medical expenses
  • Basic needs
  • Other unexpected obstacles

Previous examples of support include grocery gift cards, food assistance, transportation and car repairs, gas cards, and rental or utility assistance.

Southwest Virginia Community College President Dr. Clint Hayes expressed gratitude for this contribution, stating:
“We are truly thankful for this generous support. It reflects a shared belief in the power of education and the importance of removing barriers so every student has the opportunity to succeed.”

These funds will be available for use from November 4, 2025, through May 29, 2026.
