The 30th annual Southwest Virginia Community College Scholarship Golf Classic was held on September 29th at Tazewell County Country Club. Each year, the tournament provides much needed financial support for deserving students. Beyond tuition costs, students require funding for books, supplies and materials for classes. Over the last 30 years, the SWCC Scholarship Golf Classic has raised more than half a million dollars in an effort to help students with these costs.
This year’s tournament was played in honor of Priscilla McCall. Priscilla is a longtime supporter of SWCC and has provided hundreds of students from Buchanan and Tazewell counties with the opportunity to attend college through the Sam G. McCall, Jr. Family Scholarships. In 2019, Priscilla partnered with the Tazewell County Board of Supervisors to bring free tuition to high school seniors of Tazewell County.
Tournament sponsors were Clinch Valley Medical Center, David Mullins Wealth Management, Dr. Charles R. King, First Bank & Trust, Ginger Robertson, J.A. Street & Associates, Richlands Pharmacy & Associates, Stelio & Betty Corte Foundation, Trupoint Bank, West River Conveyors, and WVVA. Hole sponsors were First Sentinel Bank, Hurst-Scott Funeral Home, TrustPoint Insurance, Twin Enterprises, and Lindsey & Associates.
