Scholarship Golf Classic

Shawn Hill of Ramey Richlands and Stacey Mcghee

There is still time to register for the Southwest Virginia Community College Educational Foundation’s 31st Annual Scholarship Golf Classic on Thursday, September 28, 2023, at the Tazewell County Country Club. A long-standing tradition, the event has generated over $500,000 in the past 30 years, directly benefiting students at the college.

The funds collected from the Golf Classic are instrumental for SWCC students, helping them offset tuition fees and essential costs like books and class materials. One of the event’s highlights this year is a $20,000 cash prize. Ramey Automotive Richlands is offering a hole-in-one on hole #3, allowing a participant to win the cash prize.

Participants will not just be playing for hefty cash prizes. The $150 player fee includes several amenities, including an 18-hole golf round, snacks and beverages, and a dinner. Players will also walk away with a tournament logo cap, towel, and golf ball.

This year’s tournament will feature two-person teams in categories such as men’s, women’s, and mixed. Adhering to the Captain’s Choice format, teams will be placed based on the lower of the two handicaps. Each player is expected to use at least six drives per round, and winners will emerge in both the First and Second Place in each of the six flights. Potential sponsors can look forward to various contribution levels, ranging from the Tournament Sponsor package at $1,000, which caters to 4 players and includes premium signage, to the Hole Sponsor package at $500, which offers benefits for two players. Donations in the form of prizes, both tangible and cash, are also welcomed and will be recognized during the event.

As SWCC rallies the community for another successful year of its Scholarship Golf Classic, the hopes are high that more students will benefit from the funds raised, getting them one step closer to realizing their academic dreams.
