The Virginia Tobacco Region Revitalization Commission approved an award of up to $240,000 in Workforce Financial Aid to Southwest Virginia Community College (SWCC). This award is to help provide scholarship support during the 2025-2026 Academic Year for eligible students pursuing the following: short-term, non-credit Workforce Credentials; G3 and non-G3 eligible programs in STEM-H and Advanced Manufacturing fields; and a portion of first-time credential Testing Fees. Eligible SWCC students are selected by the Financial Aid Office, based on factors, criteria, and program priorities established by the Tobacco Commission.
The award will include the funds needed to assist in tuition costs for 104 students enrolled in Priority 1-3 programs. In addition to the tuition assistance, an allocation of $24,000 will be used to provide testing fee assistance to 358 students in a variety of programs, such as healthcare, information technology, and advanced manufacturing programs. The costs of these tests can range from $75 to $506.
