The Small Business Development Center at Southwest Virginia Community College assists local businesses with business plans, finding start-up funding sources, marketing, and more. Their clients are regularly featured in VCEDA, SBDC, and Virginia Business publications. As of late, the SBDC had 8 clients receive the VCEDA Seed Capital Grant.
Founded by Henry Viers, this new restaurant is located in Haysi, Virginia at Southern Gap. It serves everything from home-cooked meals to sandwiches and fries. It offers residents of Dickenson County, as well as visitors, a new sit-down restaurant option in the area, and offers online ordering.
“Lin’s bistro marks a significant milestone in Dickenson County’s dining scene — bringing refined, sit-down options to a region that has been underserved in this category,” said SWCC SBDC Director Denise Harmon. “The Viers’ have poured heart and soul into crafting a welcoming space that showcases both their culinary passion and community spirit.”

Founded by Chris Myers and Donna Roberts, this new endeavor was more than just opening a restaurant and music venue but rather blending Appalachian culture with modern hospitality. Located on Main Street in the Town of Tazewell, Wayfarer offers locals and tourists a new spot for food, entertainment, and more.
“Fearless Ventures / Wayfarer is more than a business — it’s a celebration of Appalachian lifestyle,” said Denise Harmon, director of the SWCC SBDC. “Blending storytelling, music and farm-to-table gatherings, this venture showcases the natural beauty and culture of Tazewell. We’re proud to support an effort that strengthens local connections and inspires adventure.”
