Second-year students from the Southwest Virginia Community College (SWCC) and Virginia Highlands Community College (VHCC) Radiography Program recently attended the 2026 Virginia Society of Radiologic Technology (VSRT) Student, Educator, and Technologists (SET) Seminar, held April 9–11.

During the seminar, students participated in a variety of educational lectures covering key topics in radiologic technology, including material relevant to their upcoming American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) certification examination. The event also provided valuable networking opportunities, allowing students to connect with peers from across the Commonwealth of Virginia and neighboring states.

A highlight of the seminar took place on Thursday, April 9, when the program entered two teams in the 2026 Dave Lamanca Memorial Student Technical Bowl. The fast-paced competition featured 71 registry-style questions delivered via Kahoot and included 13 teams from across the region.

Both SWCC/VHCC teams delivered outstanding performances throughout the hour-long competition. One team remained in strong contention for first place multiple times and was narrowly edged out on the final question in a closely contested finish.

The program proudly recognizes the students who competed:

Team One: Alexis Austin, Erin Childers, Bailey Harris, and Makala Childress

Team Two: Delaney Smith, Riley Martin, Emily Nisewonder, and Kayla Neal

Winning teams in the competition received cash prizes, which were divided among team members.

“We are incredibly proud of our students for their dedication, knowledge, and professionalism,” said program representatives. “Their performance reflects the strength of our program and their commitment to excellence in the field of radiologic technology.”

The Radiography Program is a 22-month consortium offered jointly by Southwest Virginia Community College and Virginia Highlands Community College.
