Cedar Bluff, VA — Southwest Virginia Community College proudly announces that Chief Millard McGhee, head of the Campus Police Department has been selected to attend the prestigious Professional Executive Leadership School (PELS), offered by the Virginia Association of Chiefs of Police (VACP).
PELS is recognized statewide as one of the premier leadership development programs for law‑enforcement executives through the University of Richmond’s School of Professional and Continuing Studies. The intensive curriculum focuses on strategic management, leadership, organizational development, and modern policing challenges. Participation is limited to leaders who demonstrate exceptional professional standards, a commitment to public service, and the capacity to guide their agencies through evolving safety and security demands.
Chief McGhee’s selection reflects his ongoing dedication to strengthening campus safety, enhancing emergency preparedness, and advancing the professional development of the Southwest Virginia Community College Campus Police Department. As a U.S. Navy veteran and experienced law‑enforcement officer, Chief McGhee brings a strong foundation of service, discipline, and community engagement to the program.
“It is an honor to represent Southwest Virginia Community College in the PELS program,” Chief McGhee said. “This opportunity will allow me to further enhance our department’s leadership capacity, strengthen our operational readiness, and continue building a culture of professionalism and trust across our campus community.”
Chief McGhee completed the program April 16th , 2026, applying its principles to ongoing initiatives including emergency operations planning, threat assessment coordination, officer development, and campus‑wide safety communications.
