CEDAR BLUFF, VA — Next Monday, January 18, at 6:00 PM, Southwest Virginia Community College will be hosting a virtual celebration for Martin Luther King Jr. Day. The highly valued and exciting event is typically held on campus in a banquet format with plenty of food and engaging speakers. Due to COVID-19 and restrictions on large gatherings this year, the tradition will continue in a virtual format.
This year’s guest speaker in Pastor Reggie Hunt from Boone, NC. Pastor Hunt has spent a little over two decades building bridges and connecting generations; whether it is with high school students, college students, athletes, empty nesters or families, he carries a passion for people. Crossing cultural and international barriers and drawing what he describes as, “people from every life stage and faith stage.” Pastor Hunt ministers the message of intentional relationships: active listening, racial reconciliation, active faith, and transformative work.
Pastor Hunt is known for his practical approach to difficult conversations and his many illustrations that create a picture of hope. He is also known for his phrases like “God is not color-blind” and “we can all speak the language of pain, when our first response is compassion.”
A selection of current Southwest Virginia Community College students will also be honored during the event. We hope you will join us live on our website and our Facebook page. Learn more at http://go.sw.edu/MLK2021
