The Southwest Virginia Community College Scholarship Golf Classic was played on September 23rd at Tazewell County Country Club. Over 50 golfers participated in the tournament. The tournament is an opportunity to raise funds for much-needed financial support for deserving students at SWCC. Beyond tuition costs, students require funding for books and supplies and materials for their classes. All proceeds go towards scholarship funds to help pay for these costs.
Tournament Sponsors are TruPoint Bank, Richlands Pharmacy Associates, Ginger Robertson, Dr. Charles King, Ramey Richlands, First Bank & Trust, WVVA, Clinch Valley Medical Center, David and Brittany Mullins, and J.A. Street & Associates.
Hole Sponsors are Sandy Whitt, Priscilla McCall, J.A. Street & Associates, First Sentinel Bank, Hurst-Scott Funeral Home, CGI, Huffman Insurance Agency, and First Community Bank.
Winners of the Championship Flight are Larry Mullins and Larry Brewster. Runners-up in the Championship Flight are Ron Barrett and Brent Dyson. Winners of the First Flight are Jessee Owens and Don Lowe. Runners-up in the First Flight are Paul Lallande and John Teets.
Winners of the Second Flight are Chad King and Billy Moss. Runners-up in the Second Flight are Dick Landreth and Ron Mallory. The winners of the Third Flight are Robert Morrow and Barry Alley. Runners-up in the Third Flight are Matt Rasnake and Brian Boyd.
The winners of the Fourth Flight are Peter Mulkey and Taylor Moen. Runners-up in the Fourth Flight are Kenny Lowe and Robert Brandon. Many area businesses donated prizes to be distributed among the golfers and guests. A 2022 Buick Encore was provided by Ramey Automotive for a Hole-In-One on the third hole which, unfortunately, was not won! However, Rob Morgan had a hole-in-one, a tournament first, on the 13th hole! Morgan won $100 for being closest to the pin. Golf balls were provided by Rod Moore and were in memory of Connie Davis. The Grand Prize was a Southwest golf bag provided by the SWCC Athletic Department. The reception and dinner were provided by Food City of Claypool Hill.
