Speak Up for Your Future! is a focused initiative to improve students’ oral communication skills across academic and professional contexts.
The plan defines five Student Learning Objectives (SLOs): organizing, delivering, adapting, supporting, and evaluating oral communication. These outcomes are embedded in SDV courses and expanded into division-specific courses, ensuring early and sustained development. Co-curricular events and faculty development further reinforce these outcomes, creating a comprehensive learning environment.
Students, watch this space for opportunities to practice your oral communication skills through Speak Up! events, such as career-readiness workshops and career fairs, which will allow you to communicate with regional employers, participate in mock interviews, and develop elevator pitches. Other events, such as student-led presentations and showcases, will allow students to share their work with others while practicing their communication skills.
Professional development activities will be provided to faculty, including in-semester workshops, online training resources, and communities of practice, and will focus on teaching oral communication across disciplines.
We will soon be adding our QEP Committee Charter, QEP Review document, and the Speak up! Rubric. Additional data and documents will be added as they become available.
All Southwest locations are CLOSED on Tuesday, February 24, due to inclement weather.
NOTICE: The Local College Board will meet on Thursday, March 12, at 4:00 PM in Tazewell Hall, Room T-302.
