About Distance Learning at Southwest

Distance Learning from Southwest is a great way to get a college education on your schedule. Classes are delivered online, offering a flexible way to get a degree, certificate, or take classes to transfer to a four-year college or university.

Once you decide to enroll at Southwest, all online student resources will be located and accessed through MYSouthwest. MYSouthwest is where students access Canvas (the online platform where all classes and course content are housed), student e-mail, library resources, tutoring services, Zoom meeting information, and related student information.

Explore our programs and find a program that fits your needs. We’re available if you have questions about a specific program or course. Your course may incorporate streaming media, which contains videos where you will gain information similar to if you were listening to a lecture in a face-to-face classroom. The Canvas course page will also indicate if you are required to contact the Distance Learning office to obtain any supplemental materials.

Contact us if you have any questions about what is expected of you in your distance courses or for more information.

PAYING FOR COLLEGE

Southwest Virginia Community College has options to help you pay for a degree or certificate. A high percentage of students receive assistance through financial aid.

There are also tuition-free options for residents of Buchanan County and recent high school graduates in Russell and Tazewell counties. Learn about these programs here.

Scholarships are also available, so ask us today how we can help you reach your goals.
