Teacher Preparation-Education Specialization, Associate of Arts & Sciences

The Teacher Preparation, Education Specialization is designed for students wanting to teach 8th grade and under and special education.

Spend less on tuition, student fees, and housing than you’d spend at a four-year university, plus get a quality education close to home.

The Teacher Preparation Education Specialization is a statewide common curriculum that prepares students to transfer to four-year colleges and pursue coursework that will lead to licensure in Early Childhood PK-3, Elementary PK-6, Middle Education 6-8 & Special Education. This curriculum provides general education classes students need for transfer and courses specific to education, including SDV 101, Orientation to Education, and EDU 200, Introduction to the Teaching Profession.

The EDU 200 course includes a practicum in a local school and fulfills the requirement of most four-year schools for a field placement experience prior to admission into a teacher training program. If you are looking for an exciting career that allows you to become a vital part of your community, consider enrolling in this program and becoming a teacher.

Southwest as part of the Virginia Community College System, has a Transfer & Guaranteed Admissions Agreements site, providing a full listing of transfer opportunities. Contact us today for more information and to get started!
